Typography
Typography is the "art and technique of selecting and arranging type styles, point sizes, line lengths, line leading, character spacing, and word spacing for typeset applications"; both physical and digital in format.
A great web page to review on typography can be found at a site named i love typography. Take the time to visit the site to look over some very good ideas on typography.
You can also look over some sites that make great use of typography.
When choosing a font, it is important to realize every computer is not set up the same way. You may have the coolest font ever on your home computer and you want to use it for your web site. The problem is you are the only one that has the font! If the majority of your visitors do not have your cool font, they will not see the web site the way you are expecting them to see it and they may even just see symbols instead of words!
To keep this from happening, play it safe and choose a font that has an excellent chance of being on your visitor's computer. Here is a partial list of fonts installed by default in both Windows XP and Mac OS X Panther (source - http://www.wpdfd.com/issues/76/all_you_wanted_to_know_about_web_type_but_were_afraid_to_ask/):
Arial
Comic Sans MS
Courier New
