Lab 4 Homework - 5 Points

Your homework for this week is to submit a detailed plan of your web site. Look over the two files from the "prior to lab" section and construct your own plan for your index page and site structure. You do not have to construct your plans using Microsoft Word - you may simply draw your diagrams and site structure (including any notes) on two separate pieces of paper.

Plan For The Index Page

This portion of the assignment will show a diagram of how you want your index.html page to look (see example in prior to lab section).

To earn the full 2.5 points, be sure to show your planned table structure, the width of your table, and the full color scheme for your web site.  The color scheme must show the color codes for text, links, visited links, and background. Be sure to write what color the color code represents. Example: #000000 - black - text color.

Show where you will have images, links, content, etc for your index page.  Be as concise as possible - a carefully laid out plan will help you construct your web site when you begin piecing it together using Dreamweaver.

Note: Do not copy the sample plan from prior to lab.  It is an example only - if your plan looks like the sample plan, you will not receive credit for this assignment.

Plan For The Site Structure

This portion of the assignment will show your planned site structure. Be sure to show how each page will link to each other (see example site structure) and carefully choose your file names. Remember, file names should be all lowercase letters and should include the .html file extension.  Plan out what you will need to include on each page and write out the details on your site structure sheet. You can always look at some examples of site structures at the web style guide web site.

When creating your site structure, you should remember that you must have links going to your resume files (lab 2) and company files (lab 3) somewhere on your website. The links do not need to be on your index page, but they must exist somewhere in your web site. A good idea would be to make a page called cis1055.html and place all homework links on that page.

If you really want to plan ahead, a couple of other pages you will need to create are:

- an image gallery page
- a form page (to collect information)

Note: Do not copy the sample plan from prior to lab.  It is an example only - if your plan looks like the sample plan, you will not receive credit for this assignment.

Both of these papers will be due at the start of your next lab. Failure to turn in the papers on time will result in a 0 for the lab assignment.  This assignment cannot be turned in late.

Next week you will continue learning how to build your web page and you will want to concentrate on using the new techniques from that lab. Use this week to type in your text, add your links, make sure your e-mail link is working, and thinking of the general theme of your web page. Make sure that you make changes and publish those changes at least one time during the week so that you do not forget how to publish!

BE SURE TO MAKE A PHOTOCOPY FOR YOURSELF AS YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE THESE BACK FOR ONE WEEK!

While you are waiting for your homework grade, you should begin working on your web sites. To do this, you will need to refer back to your plans!
