Extra Credit Assignment

In light of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, as both a potential instrument of catharsis and a means to demonstrate your evolving expertise and insight in the history of U.S. foreign and security policy, I am offering you the opportunity to write an essay (1-3 pages) responding to one of the following questions. You should offer an informed argument (opinion) and provide support for it. Your reward for your effort (at least your mundane award) will be up to 10 points toward your final grade.
1. If you were a member of President George W. Bush's team of foreign policy and national security advisors, what measures would you recommend in response to the terrorist attacks on the the World Trade Center and Pentagon? Why?
2. What do you foresee as the implications and consequences of the terrorist attacks on the the World Trade Center and Pentagon? Keep in mind that your response will be speculative, so you should make clear the rationale for your judgment(s). Suffice it say, the aim of the historian is to examine the influence of change over time.
