The MRI demonstrated a mass (pituitary adenoma) which destroyed the pituitary, expanded the sella turcica, and compressed the optic chiasm. Destruction of the pituitary resulted in decreased hormone secretion and the midline compression of the optic chiasm caused a bitemporal anopsia.
