The Moving Story of Johnny Appleseed (1987); 15 minutes
Johnny Appleseed, the idiosyncratic character from pioneering days, speaks from a voice that parallels a tale of the dissemination of early American capitalism with the forces that shape identity within the nuclear family. Using agricultural imagery, nineteenth century photographs of Native Americans, and found and original film footage, Appleseed portrays him/herself as a figure in transition, moving both away from and toward a clearer identity.
