Columbus discovers America (1986); 8 minutes
On the encounter between Columbus’ preconceptions about the New World and pre-Columbian consciousness, which can only be understood from history books as an unknown quantity that slipped between the cracks of the discoverer’s vision. This videotape uses architectural renderings, illustrations of Native Americans by early explorerers and family pictures projected, overlaid and collaged onto forms and bodies, to re-enact this historical event of de-vision.
